Comment: | The Foundation for Women's Health Research and Development (FORWARD) is an African-women led, international non-governmental organisation that works to advance the sexual reproductive health and human rights of African girls and women. FORWARD is committed to eliminating harmful gender-based discriminatory practices that violate the sexual reproductive health and rights of girls and women such a female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. FORWARD seeks to build capacity and provide leadership and support to facilitate effective policy and programme development to end gender discriminatory practices.
In the UK, FORWARD provides information and advice, training, and counselling and support. It has an FGM resource library and a video learning service. It works with, and researches attitudes in, FGM practising communities.
Internationally, FORWARD collaborates with international and African non-governmental organisations, and has several programmes in Africa to promote the health of women and girls. |
