Comment: | The Care of Next Infant (CONI) programme is funded by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, to work with the health services to provide an organised hospital and community programme, to offer support to anxious families. These include families with babies born following a cot death, families with a history of cot death in the extended family, families with a history of baby death from causes other than cot death and families whose babies have suffered an apparent life-threatening event. The programme is available in most areas with a named paediatrician and health visitor co-ordinator. Support available includes weekly visits by a health visitor , symptom diaries, apnoea monitor, weighing scales, weight chart and room thermometer. In most areas, babies are given open access or a fast track system to the paediatrician.
In the Autumn of 2004, the Cot Death Society was closed and it donated all of its baby monitors to the CONI programme of the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID). |
