Professional organisation and certificated trade union for nurses, midwives, health visitors, nursing students, health care assistants and nurse cadets. The RCN's Royal Charter sets out the purposes of the RCN:
to promote the science and art of nursing and the better education and training of nurses and their efficiency in the profession of nursing;
to promote the professional standing and interests of members of the nursing profession;
to promote the above aims in both the UK and other countries;
to assist nurses who, by reason of ill health or other adversity, are in need of assistance:
to institute and conduct examinations, and to grant certificates and diplomas.
For today's busy professional and nursing students, the RCN offers its members a wide range of services including:- advice on support with problems at work, legal representation, a range of education and continuing professional development activities, professional advice and a counselling and personal advice service.
There is also a helpline (0845-772-6100) offering support for RCN members on any issue.
