Comment: | The Royal College of Surgeons of England is an independent professional body committed to promoting and advancing the highest standards of surgical care for patients.
They do this by:
+ supervising training of surgeons;
+ providing educational courses and practical workshops for surgeons and other medical professionals at all stages of their careers;
+ examining trainees to ensure the highest professional standards;
+ promoting and supporting surgical research;
+ supporting audit and evaluation of clinical effectiveness;
+ housing an information resource centre for surgeons;
+ acting as an advisory body to the DoH, health authorities, Trusts, hospitals etc;
+ collaborating with other medical and academic organisations in the UK and worldwide.
The College promotes standards of surgical care but does not have a role in disciplinary actions or processing complaints from patients. These are the responsibilities of the General Medical Council. |
