Trichology is the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair. Clinical trichology is the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the human hair and scalp.
The Institute of Trichologists is the professional association for trichologists.
For the protection of patients, the Institute publishes a Code of Professional Practice and Ethics, by which all practising trichologists who are registered members of the Institute are expected to abide. The Institute maintains a register of qualified trichologists and can provide details to the public on local services.
The Institute of Trichologists is a non-profit organisation; it exists by student fees and membership subscriptions and with the support of companies in the wider hair care and pharmaceutical industries.
