Comment: | The vast majority of babies are normal. However all women, whatever their age, have a small risk of delivering a baby with a physical and / or mental handicap. In some cases the handicap is due to chromosomal abnormality such as Downs Syndrome. There are various tests that can be made to detect abnormalities.
The Fetal Medicine Centre provides a range of such services for pregnant women including various ultrasound scans, nuchal scans, Chorion Villus Sampling (CVS), amniocentesis and screening for Downs Syndrome.
