Organisation:Taking Action Forum

Comment:

The Taking Action Forum is a new self-advocacy forum run by and for people with learning disabilities and mental health issues, and supported by TACT (see seperate record). As a result of the work TACT have been doing in the community, the service users and staff decided to work together to set up a self-advocacy project in Gloucestershire.
The aims of the Taking Action Forum are:
+ to meet every four to six weeks;
+ to enable anyone with learning disabilities or mental health issues living in Gloucestershire to access the forum;
+ to feed the information gathered back to other regional and national forums;
+ to monitor the outcomes of suggestions;
+ for service users to plan and run the forum, with support.
Meetings may include guest speakers - local MP's, Council representatives, people with skills and talents to share, etc. - a chance to make sure everyone's voice is heard, working together on fund raising projects and learning more about 'Valuing People'.
