Comment: | The Guideposts Friendship Scheme is about pairing volunteers (volunteer members) and people with a learning disability living in the community (client members) that have the same or similar hobbies or interests. They can then form a friendship and enjoy their hobbies / interests / activities together.
The goals of the scheme are to enable client members to gain confidence in their own skills, improve their independence and widen their social circle by integrating within their own community. This is achieved by the volunteer friend supporting them to access local amenities and facilities to participate in enjoyable and meaningful social and leisure activities, which they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
For volunteers, two or three hours once a week, or once a fortnight, will enable you to make a real difference to your own life and someone elses. It is a chance to become more involved with your local community, meet new people. You will get full support from the friendship co-ordinator and out of pocket expenses will be paid. |
