Comment: | The Legal Services Commission is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Constitutional Affairs, and is responsible for the development and administration of two national schemes in England and Wales - the Community Legal Service (CLS -see separate record) and the Criminal Defence Service (CDS).
The CLS is an initiative to improve the public's access to quality information and help for their civil legal problems, such as family, debt and housing.
The CDS is a scheme providing free legal advice and representation for people facing criminal charges.
These services are available through Quality Marked solicitors' offices and advice agencies across England and Wales.
Community Legal Service Direct helps people find information and advice, including local advice services.
