Comment: | The CSA is an executive agency of the Department for Work and Pensions and are responsible for running the child support system. They deliver a child support service which plays its part in ensuring that children whose parents do not live together are financially supported and kept out of poverty.
Their work is assessing, reviewing and arranging child support. They also:
trace and contact non resident parents; resolve paternity disputes when a man believes he is not a child's father;
collect and pass on maintenance payments, taking action to ensure the non-resident parent pays regularly and on time;
deal with applications for Departures from the normal assessment formula;
where appropriate, prepare and present appeals to be heard by the Independent Child Support Appeal Tribunal Service and work with Jobcentre Plus in cases where clients receive social security benefits to ensure correct payments and protect against fraud;
offer a National Helpline to deal with general enquiries on Child Support Agency legislation and procedures. .
