Sign, the National Society for Mental Health and Deafness is a registered charity dedicated to the field of mental health and deafness in the UK. They provide supported living, advocacy, outreach and club house activities for any deaf person in need of emotional support.
They campaign to reduce the likelihood of deaf people developing preventable mental health problems in the UK, through working with health and deaf organisations, generic mental health charities, statutory bodies and service providers. Sign provide tailor made training on deaf awareness for health care professionals who wish to improve the accessibility of their services for their deaf customers.
They are also currently running a campaign, Reaching Deaf Minds (see website at www.reachingdeafminds.org.uk) to raise awareness and enable deaf people to gain access to appropriate primary care services, so they are at less risk of developing mental health problems.
