The Refugee Council is the largest organisation in the UK working with asylum seekers and refugees. They give help and support, and work with asylum seekers and refugees to ensure their needs and concerns are addressed.
The Refugee Council's work includes:
+ giving advice and support;
+ working with refugee community organisations;
+ caring for unaccompanied refugee children;
+ offering training and employment courses;
+ a residential home for young refugees;
+ campaigning and lobbying for refugees;
+ producing information on refugee issues.
The Birmingham office provides support to newly arrived asylum seekers. They currently provide initial accommodation for those who are destitute, and help them obtain their own accommodation. The main thrust of their work involves giving advice and support while a decision is awaited.
