Organisation: Wessex Mediation

Comment:

The government requires all Local Education Authorities to provide an independent service to help when parents/carers and the education authorities cannot agree on how to meet a child's special educational needs. Wessex Mediation is a free service funded by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES), and is available to parents, schools and Local Education Authorities within the following areas, Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire, Swindon, Wiltshire, Bristol and Bath and North East Somerset.
Mediation can help by improving communication between parents/carers, schools and LEA's, helping to rebuild the trust between parents / carers and professionals so they can share their knowkedge of the child and their concerns, and explore and discuss the different possible courses of action that could be folowed.
