Comment: | Mencap is the UK's leading learning disability charity working with people with a learning disability and their families and carers. They campaign for equal rights and greater opportunities, and challenge attitudes and prejudices. They also provide advice and support to meet people's needs throughout their lives.
Mencap Sport was launched on 1st. April 2005 when Mencap took on the role of the English Sports Association for People with Learning Disability - previously a separate charity. Mencap Sport promotes opportunities in sport and physical activity for people with learning disabilities and encourages them to make their own decisions about being involved in sport, be it recreationally or competitively.
Mencap Sport will also work to campaign and lobby for improved access and to increase the profile and recognition of people with learning disabilities in sport and physical activity. |
