Comment: | The Timebank was launched in 2001 by Fair Shares. Fair Shares is a new kind of money based on time. You earn one Fair Share for each hour that you provide a service for another participant. You can spend your Fair Shares when you need a service, give them to a member of your family or save them.
Participants include older people, people who are housebound, teenagers still at school, lone parent families and middle-aged business people. Age, lack of finance or mobility are no bars to joining Fair Shares and they wish to include people with physical and learning disabilities.
When you join, an account is opened for you. Your hours are recorded on computer and you are sent a regular statement of the time you have given and received. Services people provide include shopping, gardening, computing, pet care, sewing, decorating, etc. |
