Best Foot Forward is a basic foot-care project which, following a successful pilot scheme is now a permanent main-stream service in the Cheltenham, Gloucester and Forest of Dean areas. Basic foot care is not provided by the Statutory Organisations in the county and this is a response to public comment. The four aspects of foot care provided are:
+ toenail cutting;
+ filing of toenails;
+ bathing of feet;
+ cream application to feet.
The project is jointly funded by Gloucestershire Social Services, Home Care and Gloucestershires NHS Podiatry Service. The service is provided by trained Home care Assistants. It is recognised that there are people who are unable to carry out their own basic foot care, and that it is important to maintain good foot care.
All service users must purchase their own Foot Care kit - this is in order to reduce the possibility of cross infection from other clients feet. The fee for the service is currently (as of August 2006) £13.50 per hour, dependent on assessment by Social Services.
All referrals must be through your GP - please do not contact the Service direct.
