Comment: | The Great Oaks Dean Forest Hospice provides a range of palliative and supportive care services for those with severe diseases such as cancer, and progressive conditions such as motor neurone disease. Care, support and respite is extended to their families, into bereavement if necessary. Admission can be at any point during an illness, when the illness affects quality of life. Their aim is to help people remain as active and independent as possible for as long as possible. This may be through meeting others with similar experiences, developing new ways of coping with the illness, learning new skills and trying different activities.
They have a rehab department, art and craft facilities, complementary therapy programmes, personal care and social outings. An initial assessment identifies which type of care would be most appropriate for each patient. People are encouraged to move to different parts of the service when ready to do so and to explore other avenues for care when the hospice is no longer needed. Re-admission is available at any time should the need arise. |
