Comment: | Holiday Support is a charity which organises group holidays for children who generally come from families where there has been domestic violence or difficult home situations. The holidays are run for groups of up to eighteen children and referrals must be made by an agency such as a women's refuge, domestic violence project, a neighbourhood project, Social Services, health services or Education workers. They arrange approximately two one-week holidays, four holiday weekends and two day trips per year. Once children have attended one holiday they may be invited for further holidays in subsequent years, depending on their age and situation. For the full-week holidays the children may be divided into two age groups (ie. five to tenyears, eight to twelve years). The adults who help are all trained and inspected volunteers and the ratio of adults to children on each outing is approximaetly two adults per three children. |
