Comment:

Cheltenham Family Welfare Association administer two almshouse charities, the Aid in Sickness Fund and The Gooding Fund. The Aid in Sickness Fund has money available for relieving need in families where there is any kind of illness.
The Gooding Fund is for families in need (generally). Both funds require applications from social workers or health visitors or equivalent professionals and grants usually average around £50.00. On-going commitments, like playgroup fees for a year ahead, are not considered. The funds prefer to make payment directly to the creditor involved where there is a bill such as heating, telephone etc. outstanding. No furniture or household items are available through the funds.
The Almshouses offer sheltered accommidation to elderly people of limited means. Apply direct to the clerk for an application form.
