October 2006 and replaced the three former Primary Care Trusts in Gloucestershire (Cheltenham and Tewkesbury, Cotswold and Vale and West Gloucestershire).
Gloucestershire PCT has three main responsibilities:
+ improving the health of local people using our resources more effectively, to target the health needs of the local population and improving access to health services;
+ developing NHS primary care in the whole of Gloucestershire (it is called 'primary' because it is usually the part of the NHS we first meet as patients - family doctors, pharmacists, dentists and opticians are included in Primary Care) and community healthcare services;
+ commissioning of hospital services for patients in this locality. |
