Comment:

The Association of Wheelchair Children (AWC) aims to help wheelchair using children by providing specialist training and expert advice that will enable them to become more independently mobile, both in the home and out of doors.
AWC makes no charge for its service and is committed to helping as many children as possible, without placing any financial burden on their parents and carers.
AWC also aims to:
+ help parents acquire equipment that is appropriate to their child's needs;
+ provide advice and advocacy support to the parents of wheelchair using children;
+ run workshops for healthcare professionals where guidance is given on how to assess the suitability of equipment for children and subsequent training in its use.
AWC works in co-operation with other voluntary organisations and carers to ensure a comprehensive training programme takes place and limited resources are used wisely.
