Organisation:Gateway Award

Comment:

The Gateway Award is a challenging and exciting programme of personal and social development. Anyone from the age of thirteen can take part in the Award although the programme is particularly suited to young disabled people and adults.
The programme is based on participants achieving five complementary sections in each of three progressive Awards - bronze, silver and gold. The five sections are intended to encourage participants to extend their confidence and life skills:
+ hobbies;
+ community service;
+ adventure challenge;
+ physical recreation;
+ lifestyle.
The programme provides the opportunity to develop the skills to achieve this.
Each participant is assisted by adults who take on roles as leaders, supporters and assessors.
When all sections are complete the participant is presented with a certificate and lapel badge.
Special arrangements are made to award special sectional certificates for those who, for whatever reason, cannot successfully complete a full Award.
