Comment:

Group B Strep Support (GBSS) is a UK charity set up to help: any woman who has been found to carry GBS; any pregnant woman wanting to know more about the potential effects of GBS during labour and delivery; any family who have had a baby with a GBS infection and for health professionals. The organisation aims to raise awareness amongst health care professionals of how to prevent most GBS infections developing in babies, to provide an up-to-date GBS information centre and to generate continued financial support for research into GBS prevention. Since the 1970's, group B streptococcus (GBS) has been recognised as the primary cause of bacterial infection in newborn babies, resulting in disease at birth and up to three months of age. GBSS is able to provide information about preventitive measures that it is possible to take.
