DOMICILIARY
CARE AGENCIES
Domiciliary Care is help which is provided in people’s own homes.
Gloucestershire County Council Social Services Department provides its own home
care services, but it also purchases care from independent domiciliary care
providers.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is responsible for registering
domiciliary care agencies, including Social Services’ home care service.
The CQC is an independent, non-governmental public body and it is now a legal
requirement that all domiciliary care providers register with the CQC, who will
regularly inspect agencies against the national minimum standards for
domiciliary care. Failure to meet the standards could result in closure
of the business.
To the best of our knowledge, the personal care providers shown on
this list have all been accredited by the CQC, but it must be stressed that
inclusion in the list does not mean that they are endorsed by
Gloucestershire County Council, and the individual remains responsible for checking
the accreditation is valid before engaging personal care.
Social Services’ home care has also applied for registration, but it is
not in this list of providers. This is because, unlike the private and
voluntary sectors, the local authority service cannot be bought privately.
This list
also includes some local agencies that provide only domestic help (eg cleaning,
shopping, laundry), but not personal care. These agencies do not
have to be registered with the CQC.
